How to Use Our Free UK eBay and Amazon Seller Profit Calculator

Our free UK eBay and Amazon Seller Profit Calculator helps you estimate your marketplace fees, selling costs and potential profit before listing a product. It is designed for UK online sellers using eBay, Amazon FBA or Amazon FBM. Enter your figures and the calculator updates automatically. There is no registration, subscription or software to download.

Select Your Marketplace

Start by selecting either eBay UK or Amazon UK at the top of the calculator. Each option includes fields specifically designed for that marketplace. You can switch between the two marketplaces at any time. Select Compare eBay and Amazon to see which platform could provide the higher estimated profit for your product.

Enter Your Selling Price and Product Costs

Add the price the customer will pay in the Item selling price field. This should include VAT where applicable.

Next, enter:

  1. Your product cost
  2. Any postage charged to the customer
  3. The actual postage cost you pay
  4. Your packaging cost

Including every cost gives you a more realistic estimate of your net profit. Small expenses such as boxes, mailing bags, labels and packing materials can significantly reduce your margin when selling large quantities.

Calculate eBay UK Seller Fees

When using the eBay UK profit calculator, select the category that most closely matches your product. The calculator uses the corresponding estimated final value fee percentage.

If you know the exact fee rate charged to your eBay account, open Advanced options and enter it in the manual final value fee field. This overrides the standard category estimate.

You can also include:

  • Your eBay Promoted Listings advertising rate
  • International selling fees
  • Eligible seller fee discounts
  • Other selling costs
  • Your VAT registration status

The calculation includes the estimated eBay final value fee, per-order fee, regulatory operating fee and advertising cost. This provides a clearer indication of how much money may remain after eBay seller fees and operating expenses.

Calculate Amazon UK Seller Fees

Select the Amazon UK tab and choose your fulfilment method:

  • FBA – Fulfilled by Amazon
  • FBM – Fulfilled by Merchant

For Amazon FBA products, enter the current fulfilment fee shown by Amazon, along with storage, inbound shipping, preparation and labelling costs where applicable.

For Amazon FBM products, enter the postage, packaging and handling expenses you pay when fulfilling the order yourself.

You can also select your Amazon product category, selling plan and advertising rate. Open Advanced options to include a manual referral fee, Professional plan cost allocation, returns allowance and other Amazon seller costs.

Amazon referral fees and FBA charges can vary according to product category, price, dimensions, weight and fulfilment method. Always check your current fees in Amazon Seller Central before making a final pricing decision.

Select the Correct VAT Options

Choose whether you are registered for UK VAT. If you are VAT registered, the calculator removes VAT from your sales revenue when estimating net profit.

You can also indicate whether your entered product and operating costs already include VAT. This helps the calculator distinguish between recoverable input VAT and costs that directly reduce your profit.

VAT treatment can vary according to your business and the products you sell. The results are general estimates and should not be treated as tax or accounting advice.

Understanding Your Seller Profit Results

The results panel provides an immediate breakdown of your estimated marketplace performance.

Estimated Profit

Estimated profit is the amount remaining after marketplace fees, product costs, advertising, postage, packaging and other expenses have been deducted from your net sales revenue.

A green figure indicates an estimated profit, while a red figure means the product could make a loss using the information entered.

Marketplace Fees

This figure shows the estimated eBay or Amazon fees associated with the sale. Depending on the marketplace, it can include final value fees, referral fees, per-order charges, advertising costs and Amazon FBA fulfilment fees.

Profit Margin

Your profit margin shows estimated profit as a percentage of net sales revenue. This helps you compare products with different selling prices and identify listings where rising costs are reducing profitability.

Return on Investment

ROI compares your estimated profit with the amount invested in purchasing or manufacturing the product. A product can have a reasonable cash profit but still provide a poor return if its initial cost is high.

Break-Even Selling Price

The break-even price is the estimated minimum selling price needed to cover your entered costs and marketplace fees. Selling below this figure could result in a loss.

Compare Selling on eBay and Amazon

The Compare eBay and Amazon feature provides a side-by-side estimate of fees and profit for both platforms. This can help you decide where to list a new product or whether an existing listing could be more profitable on another marketplace.

The platform with the lowest fees will not always produce the best overall result. You should also consider sales volume, advertising costs, fulfilment workload, return rates and customer demand.
